Okay, so: German court decided on Jan. 20th 2022 that sites will need to host Google fonts locally.

Visitors are otherwise entitled to receive 100€ in recompensation for Google fonts transferring IP numbers to Google servers.
Google uses fonts to track users, especially if they are logged into only one other server, where stored personal data might identify them.

Yesterday, our mail-order space was destroyed in a catastrophic fire in downtown Olympia, Washington. Thousands of our books, posters, and stickers were entirely consumed along with computers and equipment.

Read our full announcement and how to help:

https://cwc.im/burnt

This represents a tremendous setback to us. To resume operations, we will need to replace the books, posters, stickers, computers, printers, packing materials, furniture, and many other things, and to secure a new space.

It's especially rough that this occurs when we are on the cusp of completing a Kickstarter campaign to reprint two of our books. Fortunately, those books are still in the printing queue at the factory, so they will go out as promised.

We are determined to get back on our feet, but we're going to need help. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped us make it this far. If we can get through this, we promise to keep doing this work for decades to come.

Of course Elsevier's "enhanced pdf viewer" tracks where you click, view, if you hide the page, etc. and then transmits a big base64 blob of events along with ID from University proxy when you leave. I'm sure straight to SciVal for sale.
Is this the way we want science to work?

Love this new text work from Olia Lialina where all mentions of "experience" in Zuck's Meta launch video are replaced by speculations about what they actually mean.

Bad social media gives you an audience: stuff like reach, personality/celebrity, spectacle, anxiety, alienation, competition.

Good social media gives you community: it’s more like voice, agency, discussion, comradery.

I want a community, not an audience.

Read & Repair - Digital Solidarity feat. Cristina Cochior

This Sunday evening we have a collective reading session on Digital Solidarity. In a time where everything points to the further consolidation and accelerated normalization of the Big Tech industry (Zoom, Facebook groups, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Skype, etc.), we need collective digital alternative practices. How can we develop mutual aid strategies and social closeness through alternative digital infrastructures in times of physical distancing, remote working or care giving?

The text selection for Read in August was made by @ccl Together we will be reading chat transcripts of conversations around solidarity, mutual aid and self-organised care practices, speculative fiction written by activists and texts describing how computational infrastructures create patterns for social forms (Berlant, 2016). Inspired by public domain audiobook communities, we will try to make an audio recording of one of the readings.

Finally finished fixing, recapping and calibrating this old BOSS DM-100 analogue delay/chorus from 1980. It sounds very noice.

While fixing it I saw the PCB had the Roland logo on it, and looking a bit further, it seems like Roland was basically making all the BBD delays for BOSS, Maxon, and probably more. Actually, comparing the panel and PCBs, it seems that the BOSS DM-100 is a revision update of the 1978 Roland Analog Echo DC-20.

Anyway, I think this one has lots of potential for modding. I'm thinking of learning more about CV in, and that would be a great addition. This delay also has an analogue filter linked to the delay length, it's all hardwired but would be great to have the possibility to control the filter as well.
