I was talking about apocalypticism, pre-millennial dispensation, and digital culture in one of my classes and dug up this treasure, from a series of sermons by Jerry Falwell about Y2K. Falwell is just reveling in the possible coming destruction of the world. His sermons all have titles like "Is this God’s Way to bring Revival to America?" and "Hedonism in America." Falwell's take (in September 1998) is that God was going to use Y2K to crush America and prepare us for the Second Coming.
@samplereality tangentish: oh, yeah, white evangelicalism was mainlining "last days" current-events-prophecy mashups straight from the televangelist tap from the 70s/80s on down (in a long tradition of course). Falwell, Robertson, Jim & Tammy Faye ... Hal Lindsey was a huge influence on this trend.
