More sanity from my home country: Māori tribal leaders & their advisers call for data sovereignty, to take back control of what is theirs. Cited is "an intergenerational approach to data, as a taonga (treasure)"
Self-hosting is included as a strategy, servers at home & on the marae (meeting house).
This initiative can be seen as a form of infrastructural de-colonisation, reclaiming what has been lost to the digital imperialism of AWS, Microsoft & other 'cloud' giants
Packpapier Verlag has a ton of incredible stuff coming out of boxes right now
I am a researcher and designer interested in how to build lasting and transformational alternatives to existing infrastructures, in the past this has included data stewardship, networks, and movement organizing. Now I am focused on the practices and language of low carbon networking.
Currently packing up my life and moving across the country, hoping to camp and spend some time offline along the way ⛺

Two #PHD opportunities at Malmö University in Sweden. One in Media & Communication and one in Interaction Design
Great opportunity to develop your own research project in a interdisciplinary environment with good working conditions!
I'm also in this program (Interaction Design) so feel free to ask me questions!
So, first an #introduction
I'm Camilo, a visual artist and designer from Bogotá living in Rotterdam. Usually getting lost while learning and making. Drawing is my first impulse when thinking and very often I find myself making connections between things.
These days I´m one half of 'attempt', an intuitive and independent publishing project for written and visual language, and also I'm co-organizing Zine Camp Festival in Rotterdam, a free festival for making zines and sharing small publications.
Happy to be here to start sharing and circulating more processes! 🌱
Will be at Books are Bridges in Rotterdam tomorrow, helping my wife who is serving her (delicious, vegan) borsch for Ukraine 🇺🇦 https://www.valiz.nl/en/activities/books-are-bridges-art-book-fest
New Essay on Art & Design Education
It's online "Expectations as Reality", my new essay on art & design education.* I tried to weave together various themes that are particularly close to my heart and to my world, that is, the art and design school: professional "proprioception", the role of the intellectual, self-design, the problem of access to problems, the persistence of the two cultures, the spectacle of self-aggrandizing ethics, and the ethos of compromise. Writing it meant running into a number of contradictions, and my attempt to overcome them was not easy because it meant placing myself outside a certain antagonistic comfort zone. The result is this river of text. Read it, if you have time, and let me know what you think about it, if you feel like.
The text appears on the New Design Congress, which I highly admire for their in-depth work on design politics, ethics and technology. Publishing build bridges. Big thanks to @shibco
hi everyone, I’m Louis !
I am an artist
the art I make is visual™ and digital™ (and also sometimes poetry™) (and don’t really like categories, hence the ™s) (but I like parenthesis). I like to say that I am working with and about computers, it is my main playground. I consider myself as a sculptor, but I do not really make sculptures, it is more because shapes and materials are of special importance to me.
computer stuffs obviously ! free, open, accessible, shared...
besides that, I am an enthusiast amateur cook, fermenter, brewer, forager. I ride and repair my bicycles.
I live in France (Rennes).
We're approaching the last week of this month of kickstarted fundraising on our Open Collective!
So let us tell you a little about the thought behind one of our tiers:
The idea is that if everyone who uses GoToSocial to some capacity pitches in with €1/month (in this case once a year, to reduce fees) will go a long way. And it was inspired by @Tusky having that as an option.
So if you haven't yet, you too could pitch in with just €1 / month (once a year)
We're happy to announce that we just started to work on three new interdependent online resources: the Damaged Earth Catalog, the Permacomputing wiki, and the permacomputing workshop series!
Damaged Earth Catalog
A growing online catalog of the different terms in circulation, used by communities of practice, in relation to computing and network infrastructure informed by ecological ethics, degrowth, resilience, repair, and minimalism. Currently developed by @l03s as part of her PhD research.
A new wiki about permacomputing that aims to expose its principles, present and discuss the concepts and jargon required to engage with permacomputing, and maintain a repository of related projects. Currently facilitated by @viznut and @320x200 open for contributors!
Permacomputing in the Arts
A workshop series that will be developed throughout end-2022 and 2023 as an onboarding course for permacomputing practices in art an design. The workshops will be made available as an Open Educational Resource. Developed by @320x200 as part of a postdoc research on the topic.
"The New Rural Agenda Summit is a planetary conference by lumbung member Jatiwangi art Factory. International policy makers, institutions, artists, representatives of villages and other-than-human inhabitants of the Earth are invited to strive for an agenda for a common future."

EU's ECT allows fossil fuel corps to sue governments for implementing green policies. Abolishing the treaty is a no brainer, but some EU countries are still on the fence.
Sign the petition and #EndFossilFuelProtection, less than 200k signatures missing!
Catching up on my current project, small improvised drawing of imaginary architectures.
Soon to be printed as a self published book !
1-Lighthouse, fort, restaurant, smugglers' hideout, this little island did all of this, sometime all at once.
2-The old observatory, now merely a communication tower, crumbling in disrepair under the weight of antennas.
3-The mad scientist lair, build upon the remains of the family castle, growing each day more weird and menacing.
I do projects on/with/about computers, networks, infrastructures. he/him
