"Minister De Jonge announced this week that the government is not selling any land to Zeewolde for the time being. So the construction of Facebook's energy-guzzling is fortunately one step further away.

We occupied the town hall in December and demonstrated together with farmers and citizens. In March we blocked the door to the Central Government Real Estate Agency. We are campaigning on social media. And campaigning works! Because Meta has postponed its arrival.

There is more! The opponents of the data center in won big in the municipal elections. Objection procedures are underway. Critical questions are asked about the remarkably low land price when the municipality sold to a Meta shell company. That could be unwarranted governmental support, which could lead to the annulment of the deal.

The data center therefore seems less and less plausible. But we will continue to follow it, to prevent unexpected steps being taken by the municipality, the province, central government or Meta. If necessary, we will engage you again to take action with us. Hopefully it won't be necessary, but you never know. Thanks for now!"

Do you use Mastodon's "Trends" feature?

I'm thinking about putting more effort into trends moderation. Which only makes sense if enough users actually have a look at the trends ;)

Hi, I’m gwil. I’m a programmer, illustrator, and father of two.

I used to work at a war crimes tribunal, a few e-commerce places, and am now using my practice to build alternative distributed systems.

Right now I’m working full-time on Earthstar, a FLOSS tool for offline-first, small, undiscoverable networks. earthstar-project.org

I also used to have the time to make a lot of odd-format, narrated webcomics like this one: gwil.co/peaches/leader.

Thank you for letting me in here!

curious if people will answer this or not, but what's a good day rate for web work (templates, JS, maybe some back-end) these days? UK rates preferred, but Euro/USA also intresting

European public tech funders brand themselves as feminist yet actively cultivate a culture of precarity that disproportionately affects and excludes anyone with dependents, anyone who can't take financial risk, and anyone with a disability.

If you care for children as a single parent, or live with health issues, it would be supremely irresponsible to depend on the funding model. You either throw the future of you or your dependents into uncertainty, or you are excluded.

Vraagje aan Nederlandstaligen onder ons. Eugen gaat nu ook de laatste Toot-knop vervangen door Publish (in het Engels dan). Zie hier voor https://mastodon.social/@Gargron/108352418240054955.

Wat willen wij? Gewoon 'Toot!' laten, 'Publiceren' of 'Verzenden'.

Curiosity poll regarding social media approach.

Please boost because we're really curious about the experience-approach for as many users as possible.

We have excluded two options here and will explain why:

Twitter exclusively: probably not gonna see this poll if you don't use Fediverse at all

Spiderman: We assume everyone would add Spiderman to their options because of how polls work.
