@shibacomputer this reminds me of the argument of Shock of the Old by David Edgerton that makes a case for looking at implementation vs innovation when it comes to how we talk about technology. Historically there is no link between innovation and economic power, that only happened in the 20th century U.S. Most countries/companies fare much better by focusing on really proper implementations of non-cutting edge technology.
