@melissasage @madcat @maloki @rra @mathr You boosted my previous request for grid editors with vectors, so you might like this bit of news:

A couple of months ago I tooted looking for a vector grid-based editor. Nothing came up so we (Manufactura Independente) set out to make one.

It still has a set of kinks, but it's usable to the point that we've been using it to make a few designs.

We plan to release it in Feb/Mar under a free software copyleft license (AGPL). It runs on the browser with no server-side logic and no tracking.

If you'd like to try the beta and tell us about your experience, that'd be fab! Just reply to this toot and we'll get in touch.

Hi! there will be an OFFDEM meeting at the same time as FOSDEM (February 1st and 2nd), "at a location close to the traditional FOSDEM venue"!
An intersectional festival about collective practices & free technologies production.
Conceived as the Off festival of FOSDEM, OFFDEM aims to attract producers and users of free technologies (free software, open source hardware) at the margin of FOSDEM, which is the world’s largest gathering of free software and open-source developers. OFFDEM is set to happen, like FOSDEM, on the first week-end of February, in Brussels, at a location close to the traditional FOSDEM venue. Why OFFDEM: FOSDEM Fringe event announcement:

When you buy a fig tree, there's a knock on your door that midnight. Nobody is there but a small leather book wrapped in plain paper is sitting on the ground. The pages all appear blank. But on the morning that the figs ripen, words appear reading "No one in the world thinks they taste good either. But never forget: You are part of the secret now, and we know where you live."

It's frustrating when young people are so conservative about techniques. The school system often pushes a certain kind of conformity and from the other side the job market often instills the idea that one needs to have "skills" that can be reduced to standardized techniques. For me that means that a lot of 19-year-olds think I'm a crazy heretic when I suggest that you can make a compelling image without using a particular product from the Adobe Corporation.

C'est déjà demain !

"Vice Magazine ... claimed a written agreement with a Mainland Chinese woman barring discussion of her sexual orientation and relationships was not “legally binding” so therefore could be ignored"

Holy shit, #vice.

A countdown timer in terminal, did you say?…

(Just discovered it and it made me smile.)

Literally copied that idea from the @screenless office by @KnowPresent and "sold" it to Google.

Dear design and gamedev mastofriends: Do you know of any map/tile/level editor which supports vector graphics?

They seem like a great tool for grid-based designs, but all game map editors I found work with bitmaps, not vector/SVG.

Is there any such tool?

Assange in Court.

I was deeply shaken while witnessing yesterday’s events in Westminster Magistrates Court. Every decision was railroaded through over the scarcely heard arguments and objections of Assange’s legal team, by a magistrate who barely pretended to be listening.

We've set up a Tilde-like server for our web design classes, and have just put up a HOWTO on how you can make your own with a Raspberry Pi:
