We could use a new word for the awkward moment at the beginning of a videocall when we sort out technical issues and ask each other if they're listening/seeing us, the blank wait in the meantime until the conversation can actually start
Really, I'd love to have a word for this. I'm sure you can come up with good things, fediverse :-)
⚠️🚫 major fuck up on EasyList (used by uBlock, Adblock, etc) started blocking all third party requests to .xyz .site .pro .best .club .space .info .bid this morning
update the list if your internet is broken
i've put together a list of hundreds (!) of open source, experimental, and tiny tools for interactive, web, and game development
this rose out of my weird tools games class, where we have been talking about walled gardens, the politics and aesthetics that tools carry with them, the edges of “tool” and where it intersects with “game” or “playful media” and how much a tool can say about its maker
(but i also thought this resource might be particularly useful now ~)
I am also increasingly (and deeply) persuaded that regular people need to tune out the "don't use Facebook!Google!Apple! Go freedom!" fanbros. FOSS has seldom, if ever, created viable replacements for *network services*, and on those rare occasions when it has, regular people can see it and don't need persuading to try them." Your MeetupDotCom alternative that has zero groups even in Major Metropolitan Megacities? Useless. All the users can do is read the source code while they sit at home alone

I wanted to comment on how sharing resources and stuff you're excited about can make a really big effect. For instance, @dthompson made this video about live game development in Guile https://dthompson.us/live-asset-reloading-with-guile-2d.html
That video, even though it appears simple, got me so excited that it lead to a whole exploration of work on scheme stuff for me. Certainly Spritely would be in a different place without it.
So get excited! Share things! The network effects of sharing enthusiasm can be really big!
Welcome to post.lurk.org, an instance for discussions around cultural freedom, experimental, new media art, net and computational culture, and things like that.
