There also seems to be some options on Etsy that sell "credit card sized notebooks" and they have dot grids on them too! They seem like they could be perfect, but a little pricey.

It is surprisingly difficult to find note taking equipment and supplies small enough to fit inside an altoids tin form factor case.

I like Rhodia notepads, but the only ones that fit are too small.

Raymay makes some lovely notepad quality (paper not cardstock) grid flash cards. And they *almost* fit, but the tin has rounded corners which make it ever so slightly smaller.

The best fit so far has been flash cards that are on a key ring. I was hesitant at first, but I quite enjoy them now. They don't have a grid which is too bad.

I have found a company that makes 2x3in dot grid flash cards, which might fit.

If anyone has any other suggestions for what might work, let me know.

I can't stop thinking about the term "squeecore" thanks @researchfairy

Working on sigil layout. The boxes is where sigils will go. They are threaded together in a spiral to form a path. The T shape is supposed to indicate direction, starting at the center and moving outwards. It is admittedly a little ambiguous, but so is all of this.

Once this code is done, I should have my notation system ready enough to make sounds again.

Thinking about studying some codebases of games that are available to the public like Doom or VVVVVV. Does anyone have any recommendations or guides?

Bread baking rant

Sometimes, when I tell people I make croissants, they'll ask "oh, have you every made *sourdough* croissants though?" Ugh. It's like going into an art museum with someone who is only familiar with the color red.

Bread baking rant

Everytime someone learns for the first time that I make bread, they inevitably ask if I've made sourdough. If you tell me this, you aren't being that original, but this is fine. My answer is always: I haven't, but I'd like to someday, still have a pound of instant yeast to get through, etc.

The thing that bothers me is when the conversation doesn't end after this. People are surprisingly aggressive about sourdough. Especially people who have never baked any kind of bread before. Or the ones who made it literally once. "Oh you REALLY gotta make sourdough." "Oh sourdough is amazing!", etc. Stop it. There *are* other breads in the world. And they taste great too.

Yes, sourdough is delicious, perhaps more delicious than the bread I make. But I promise you it is more work than my bread, which I've been making weekly for myself for over a year for my daily sandwich. This isn't just some fun weekend hobby for me if I have the time. This is lunch. It doesn't have to be exciting. I can assure you it is plenty delicious.

🧵 Hi mastodon! During summer vacations, my closest friends came to visit us and we spent days building little robots with only plastic waste (plastic caps, beads, just about anything that was lying around). What a wonderful vacation.

Tell me if you like it I'll post more! (This is a thread, scroll down for more pictures)

A collection of Gesture sigils. These are a combination of smaller components which define a discrete point in a Gesture Path, indicating value, rate multiplier, and behavior.

I still need to write code for layout, but once that's done, I should have enough of a notation system to start notating sounds (finally).

WTFM : Write The Fucking Manual, a cute little gnawing note to self :))

Audio programming snark

Here's an idea: why don't we think about the humans using the tool before building the tool itself? Seems obvious, but it's never done that way. I've seen very cool bits of software engineering done in the name of music, but completely detached from the experience of music.

Meanwhile, I have seen completely mediocre not-bad-not-great software manage to build entire communities and movements. Why? Because they thought about the people, and designed a tool for those people. THAT is something that can "improve on the status-quo for audio development".

I'll take the mediocre music software over the shiny gilded lily any day.

Audio programming snark

Oh great. Found yet another attempt at an audio programming language that aims to "change the status quo" for audio development. It seems like this this being made by the same people who already have been developing a language with a similar goal?

All I see are engineers compulsively making tools for themselves in their ivory towers. It just happens to make sound. Occasionally music happens. Same as it ever was.

I am frustrated, but maybe someone on the fediverse can help me

I am mute and the text to speech app on our phone no longer has a setting that sounds like a robot

I do not want to sound like a lady or a man

I liked the computer-y sounding voice and there is no longer a setting for it

and the free one in the browser also does not have a robotic/computer setting either

I understand why these things exist

but it is not enjoyable for me

is there one left with an unnatural robot setting?

I managed to set mine off last night. After, there was this red light that would blink every 15 seconds. It did this for hours until I went to bed. Real menacing, but I did some research and I assumed it was some kind of maintenance request. Not so. I woke up this morning to find the thing its usual cheerful self again. I guess it was just judging me.
