US Taxes, Ranting

Why do institutions make it so hard to give them money? You asked me to give this money to you in the first place?

Just finished watching the 2 minute highlight reel of the 2021 Oscars. That was really weird. I mean, I figured it was gonna be weird, but I still wasn't prepared.

First off, where were they? It looked like a dusty reception room from some random hotel. The lighting did nobody any favors. Also, it was very small.

All the actors looked completely strung out and disconnected from reality. I mean, they *are*, but usually the cameras are able to filter that out better.

Leave it to the collective egos of Hollywood to have an IRL ceremony during a pandemic.

i want to validate this concept (and will again in the future): do you want a linux pocket computer that is not primarily a smartphone, but could be an alternative/substitute for a smartphone? i.e. not focused on the telephone aspect, but on text/writing/CLI/web.

one idea (librem 5 has this already): pluggable cell modem if you want. alternatively wifi or tether to dumbphone/other smartphone.

I think this one moment in s1e6 is the only time we see Holden laugh in the entire series. Pity.

Saw the news that Tesla is now accepting Bitcoin payments for cars, so I looked up some figures and did some math.

According to Tesla's own figures, a Model 3 saves 30 tons of CO2 emissions over its lifetime compared to a traditional car. A Model 3 costs 0.69-1.21 BTC. Mining one BTC results in 257 tons of CO2 emissions.

For the next time someone tells you Elon Musk is saving the planet.

Found more clicks in another track by the same people, happening at around the same place. It's a long piece of ambient music, so I'm guessing it was probably created using a generative software patch.

The ways the clicks repeat makes me think a NaN got introduced into the delay line.

Makes me think about the surprising density of the famous law and order sound effect, which includes "the sound made by 500 Japanese men walking across a hardwood floor."

I would love to see a "behind the scenes" for the Xbox One Rare Achievement sound.

The unreasonable effectiveness of putting subtractive sawtooth oscillators into big reverbs.
