@minimaldotclick I'd say avoid using LMMS if you can. There's a long answer for this, but the gist is that it their core sound engine is basically somewhere between objectively bad and just broken (and beyond repair). Don't let the pretty UI trick you.
Ardour might have it's quirks, but it's much more solid than LMMS.
@paul good advice on LMMS, thanks. I'm moving from Ableton & Logic which I have extensive experience with to something more... open. The only one that was close was Ardour.
@minimaldotclick If you haven't already, you make want to take a look at Zrhythm. That seems to be the upcoming thing that all the cool kids are using these days:
In my personal opinion, I think the best path to success getting a working setup on Linux involves a combination of open-mindedness and specificity in your workflow. You really aren't going to find a FLOSS DAW that's a direct competitor to something exactly like Ableton/Logic, but if you know your workflow well enough, there may be something that is a close enough fit.
@minimaldotclick@paul Just going to mention Reaper here. It’s not OS or free per se, but it’s very actively developed, runs on Linux, and the price is very reasonable for the quality of the product. I’m coming from Logic and Renoise.
