friends of the lab are conducting research on the history of scent technologies and they currently have an open call for basically anything related to that topic -
please do participate if you can or share around to those who might have something to contribute - they'll even cover shipping & handling of physical scent-related devices if you have something to donate:
full disclosure, we've definitely benefitted from their research thus far: they re-created the scratch 'n' sniff cards that came with Leather Goddesses of Phobos and Leisure Suit Larry: Love for Sail and sent us stacks of them, and also had us on a couple of panels about scent in gaming - they're really great folks doing really interesting work
@mediaarchaeologylab OMG the Leather Goddesses of Phobos scratch'n'sniff cards! The originals are prized collector's idems nowadays. Especially if they haven't been, you know, scratched and/or sniffed.
@acousticmirror we have an original, as well, in almost mint condition. but the re-creations are very very good!
@mediaarchaeologylab I'm a little surprised that a video game had scratchnsniff samples but completely agog that the game in question was Leather Goddesses of Phobos. Because... What did the samples smell like? How do you even determine if they're accurate? This is a fractal stream of confusing questions.
@mediaarchaeologylab a drag about not having quote tweets is this almost demands qt with "is there any context at all where this isn't alarming?"
@mediaarchaeologylab This is really cool! Best of luck to everyone involved in this. I don’t really know how I could contribute honestly but I hope it goes well.
