The Pervasive Labour Union published a great map of the Fediverse at the Transmediale festival: https://gitlab.com/lidia_p/fediversetransmediale2020/
They also did a zine issue titled "Fed up!":

Proof of stake: how much you can't leave a platform, however critical you are of it, because you have invested too much in building a following
It continues to blow my mind how all the bestest and sharpest tech critics I follow on Twitter won't leave that trash fire, even on the eve of it becoming even more trash. Like if climate scientists had a pet coal fire next to their desk?
Then again I'm right there reading their terrible takes about Mastodon, so I guess why won't I leave

The new issue of OW is out and I'm very proud of it. First, because it's penned by lurkers @aiscarvalho and @rlafuente, whom I've admired since I got to know their work.
Second, because it is topical: here, Ana and Ricardo rigorously dissect Stayaway, the contact tracing app launched in Portugal during the Covid pandemic. By analysing both the technical limitations of the app and its misleading visual metaphors, they prove that a grounded criticism of public health monitoring systems is possible. Reconsidering the app after its demise, they warn us against a novelty bias in the public discourse, which is too focused on promotion and expectations rather than consequences and effects.

โ Niche software versioning question
Does anyone have favourite examples of software versioning schemes?
I may or may not be thinking about changing CryptPad's versioning system and I'm looking for alternatives. I like Ubuntu's date-versions (e.g. 20.04, 21.10) but we're on a different scale.
Also there's so much to take into account: our workload, incentives to ship features, 3rd party admins who apply updates, marketing of new features, etc
HMU if you have some examples (or own work) that you like!
fyi: 20,000 grant on "AI Anarchies"
"AI Anarchies is a call for proposals open to artists in any field who work with AI as a topic and/or AI technologies in the broadest sense. The project seeks artists that contribute to the debate on AI and ethics through conceptual and aesthetically compelling forms. AI Anarchies invites artistic, speculative, and/or technical practices and interventions that articulate and challenge approaches to power and ethics in the emergence of AI. It proposes artistic resistance through subjective and political actions and creative acts. Small AI, disobedient AI, unimaginable AI, counter AI, tricky AI, risky AI, fantasy AI, playful AI, mischievous AI, emotional AI, affective AI, or no AI at all could all be roads to AI Anarchies."
FYI I ended up buying some modular MEE audio - M6 PRO for ยฃ36.99
Very happy so far: behind-the-ear-wire fit is great, sound is good, they came with lots of stuff (replacement cable w/out remote, lots of eartip sizes, etc), and don't get me started on the insane battery life!
๐ thanks to @s0 for the recommendation!

The call for papers for the LIMITS 2022 workshop is out, for those interested in the relation between computing, ecological limits in general, climate- and climate justice. ๐ฑ

๐ ๐ป Got a ยฃ200 voucher at Oxford University Press because I wrote a chapter 3 years ago.
Paperback maximization because many books there are more expensive than that voucher. The final haul is as follows ("Regulating Big Tech" was out of stock and not pictured). My shelf is about to look smart ๐
