Good evening to you fellow boomers
@air_pump Young folks are more interested in horizontal privacy (protection against their peers, parents, and teachers/professors snooping around) than about vertical privacy (the cops or academic researchers snooping around). The fediverse model promoted by many proponents is "you and your friends start up an instance" and that would mean exposing yourself to the nerd in your group of friends who can put this together. Of course not. That's why big mainstream anonymous instances are crucial. (And of course encrypted personal messages.)
@despens good points! and that's assuming that privacy concerns are the primary focus in these choices...
A fediverse community for discussions around cultural freedom, experimental, new media art, net and computational culture, and things like that.
