Hello! I like to make weird tracker music. I mostly use Renoise these days, but also have used SuperCollider, Ableton, Pxtone, Korg M01d, Hammerhead Rhythm Station, and more.

I live in Kyoto, Japan. My day job is programming.

As far as I can tell, the reason this happens is that in numpy, None is the equivalent of np.newaxis, which adds a new axis to the array. So in the above example a[None] = [[0,0,0]]. When the assignment operator is called on this multidimensional array, it changes all the contents within. I could be wrong though, so feel free to correct me!

Today I learned the hard way that None is a valid index for Numpy/PyTorch arrays...
>>> a = np.array([0,0,0])
>>> a[None] = 1
>>> a
array([1, 1, 1])

thoughts about mastodon video uploading

It was mildly annoying to upload these videos from my phone, I had to use ffmpeg to compress them (found a useful android app that runs ffmpeg called ffshare) to get them to a small enough resolution/filesize. I understand why this is necessary, but I think this is too much friction for the average user who doesn't know how to compress their videos.

The best solution from the user's perspective would probably be to accept large videos and compress them server-side, but that might be too rough on the servers. I suppose a server-friendlier option would be a mastodon phone app with an auto ffmpeg compression option.

Short clip from Omodaka's performance at Cafe La Siesta's 21st anniversary show last night. I enjoyed the VR Chat setup with the virtual audience facing the live audience.

Here is my #introduction !
I'm a composer who builds interactive technology to augment the performative ability of software, mostly for contexts that involve improvisation. I also collaborate often, with dance and video artists as well as other musicians.
This is a piece I made called Left Hand of Receiving, which functions a bit like a theremin but controls a #maxmsp patch:

Question about using Mastodon: Is there a way to view both the "Home" and "Local" timeline combined? I like to read both and there's a lot of overlap anyway.

These days I write with pen and paper so rarely that when I do, I feel like I have a superpower.
