Changing understandings of gender by cis people / memories

@celesteh Thank you for this thread. As ever, your reflections and insights prompt me to reflect on and question my own experiences and assumptions.

In the Feminist Hack Meeting #1 @mara introduced us to mailing lists migration with Mailman. The migration of feminist lists hosted by the systerserver project was realised successfully and we went through the 'pain' all together! Here are some photos/screenshots from that day.

Thanks to all the participants who joined!

Received my first printed copy of 'A Nourishing Network' today, and had a chance to read it this evening.

This is a wonderful object and a brilliant project. I'm still trying to decide who to send my spare copy to.

Kris De Decker (of Low Tech Magazine) presents the possibilities of low-energy, low-tech wireless networks. He always writes well and this one is particularly good.

The work session focuses on mailing lists, both technically and as a communication vehicle in our grassroots tech communities; how to install and migrate between an old and a new server, but also how we interact, do skill-sharing and assign technical tasks. (...) This workshop is co-hosted with @mara. Ιt is an online collaboration between Athens and Rotterdam.

📙 Aesthetics of the Commons (ed. by Shusha Niederberger, Cornelia Sollfrank & Felix Stalder), 2020, Open Access PDF https://www.diaphanes.net/titel/aesthetics-of-the-commons-6419

“What do a feminist server, an art space located in a public park in North London, a ‘pirate’ library of high cultural value yet dubious legal status, and an art school that emphasizes collectivity have in common? They all demonstrate that art can play an important role in imagining and producing a real quite different from what is currently hegemonic …”

@celesteh It's interesting that your experience is quite the opposite of mine. I started using Vivaldi for the last three books I translated, because the notes function was ideal for keeping track of background research and quotations.
Autocomplete only shows me my own bookmarks, so I don't recall even seeing sponsored brands.
I'm not happy that it is not open source, but I found their explanation of that reasonably convincing.

@celesteh I have been here for a year and half, and my Spanish is still so bad that it's just embarrassing.
The idea with the QR codes sounds wonderful. I would be curious to hear how it goes - Christopher probably even more so.

@celesteh Now I am imagining how wonderful it would be for you to find something in Lisbon before I leave Spain.

@hafnia Since I usually have multiple browsers open, counting all the open tabs in all of them is easily over 50.
During a recent video chat, my brother noticed how many tabs his wife had opened and asked me to explain to her why this is bad.
I looked at all the tabs I had open and said, well ... there are different schools of thought about open tabs ...

@ephemeral Thank you for your kind words and for reading!
Writing has always helped me to think, but it still always surprises me when other people actually read what I write.

@celesteh I took mine. I still have it here with me in Calafou. Sometimes my visitors look a bit confused when I serve them tea in it.
I also took one for Christopher (I think I asked first), which he also still has in his kitchen in Vienna.

@fadimat That brings back a lot of memories, including the memory of all of you singing "Come on Eileen" at closing time when I just wanted you all to go away so I could stop working.
I still hate that song, and I'm grateful that Monochrome Bleu never did a cover version of it.

@fadimat I still have Monochrome Bleu in my music collection.

@nextcloud Except that the Matrix bridge isn't quite working yet, is it?
That is the one I was waiting for, but I haven't been able to connect them yet.
